Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an artist and lose your sight? Country singer/songwriter Corey Smith has recently released a song explaining his challenges and fears as a musician living with visual impairment. Entitled "Goin' Blind," the track describes the frustration, isolation, and worry that comes with the loss of sight. "The people I know are gettin' hard to recognize, and I'm scared," he laments.
Corey has supported Seva for many years. He promotes Seva during his concerts, and even visited Guatemala on a donor trip back in 2010.
He also suffers from a congenital retina condition. He has undergone retina surgeries, laser surgeries, and had to replace one eye with a prosthetic. Over the past few years, an aggressive cataract developed in his remaining eye. His doctor put off surgery because he feared the procedure might damage Corey's retina. But his vision kept getting worse; soon, he had to stop touring altogether. Thankfully, the day after releasing this song, he underwent cataract removal surgery, and can now see clearly.
