Raising Awareness that 80% of Blindness and Visual Impairment Can Be Prevented or Cured

Seva Foundation is proud to announce that Jackson Browne, David Crosby and Graham Nash, three of the most well known names in Rock & Roll, have joined as official ambassadors to the organization.

Executive Director, Jack Blanks, praised the three artists for their dedication to this important cause, noting, "We owe Jackson, David and Graham a huge debt of gratitude for all they are doing to help raise awareness about the 285 million people around the globe who suffer with blindness and visual impairment, 80% of which can be prevented or cured. Thanks to their efforts, Seva is helping one million people in need each and every year to access vital sight-saving eye care services."

Seva is known for organizing legendary benefit concerts which have featured the likes of the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, and many other world-renown artists who lend their time and talent to support the cause. David Crosby explains, "Seva has done an incredible job all over the world helping people who really need it. I am proud to be one of the many who followed Wavy and his friends down this particularly yellow brick road."

To date, Seva has helped restore eyesight to four million people around the globe. The organization was founded by public health hero Dr. Larry Brilliant along with humanitarian activist Wavy Gravy, spiritual icon Ram Dass. Steve Jobs provided the seed funds that were instrumental in getting the organization off the ground way back in 1978, long before Apple Computers was on anyone’s radar.

In the years since, Seva has been instrumental in helping to reduce the cost of sight-restoring cataract surgery, the leading cause of avoidable blindness, to just $50. Our programs build the capacity of over 20 countries (including Native American communities here in the US) to provide sustainable eye care services that are accessible by everyone, not just those who can afford to pay.

Jackson Browne praises Seva’s work, noting "For 30 years Seva has made an extraordinary contribution to the world, not only through their international programs, but here in some of the most impoverished communities in North America, on Native American reservations. Thank you Seva."

Raising awareness about the millions of people who suffer unnecessarily from blindness and visual impairment is what has inspired Jackson Browne, David Crosby and Graham Nash to be supporters and ambassadors of the organization.

Summing up why they are involved, Graham Nash says, "Such dedication to others, how could you not love Seva and what they accomplish? Well done!"
