Joss Stone Helps to Raise Awareness About Preventable Blindness in Guatemala
We are grateful to musician Joss Stone for selecting Seva and our local partner Visualiza as two of the organizations that she is highlighting as part of her current world tour. Her visit to Visualiza in Guatemala City helps to raise awareness about the fact that nearly 75% of the people who are blind in Guatemala suffer from preventable or curable causes.
Guatemala is one of the poorest nations in Latin America. Nearly 37% of the population lives on less than $2 a day.
An estimated 31,000 of Guatemala's 15.4 million residents are blind from cataract, which can be cured with a cost-effective, 15-minute surgery.
Seva provides direct support for Visualiza's clinical services and school screenings that help reduce avoidable blindness across Guatemala and restore sight to some of the country's most vulnerable populations, including women and children in rural communities.
A donation of just $50 is enough to enable Seva and Visualiza to restore eyesight to a person in need. Make a donation and restore someone's eyesight today >
Thank you to Joss Stone for helping to spread the word about this important work!
