Globally, over two billion people have a visual impairment. Of these, at least one billion would be able to see today, if they only had access to affordable eye care. Thankfully, TOMS generously donates one-third of its annual profits to community-focused causes – including our vision care centers.
TOMS’ focus on sustainability and investing in communities makes their partnership with Seva a natural one. By donating to our vision care centers program, they help empower settlements in some of the most isolated and underserved regions on the planet to provide critical eye care to their residents. These centers also create stable employment opportunities, boosting economic development in the same communities they serve. Since 2011, TOMS in partnership with Seva has funded vision services in Paraguay, Guatemala, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Nepal. This collaboration has provided over 780,000 people with critical eye care services since then.
In 2020, TOMS and Seva partnered with Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital to establish two new vision centers in Bangladesh. Located on the remote islands of Rangabali and Mehendiganj in the Bay of Bengal, these health facilities now serve a population of over 150,000 who would otherwise not have easy access to eye care.
See our heartwarming video about these clinics here.
Thanks to our partnership, TOMS and Seva have helped communities around the world establish more than 30 vision centers. These facilities have already provided 150,000 people with much-needed eye care services—and, with TOMS’ help, we look forward to serving many more!
