Global Sight Initiative (GSI) began as an idea shared among some of the giants in eye health. Launched in 2006, GSI provides a package of investment, training programs, and capacity-strengthening services to GSI network members. The network members themselves share promising clinical and non-clinical practices that improve the quality, volume, and efficiency of the eye care they deliver. The goal is to eliminate avoidable blindness and help people to see more clearly by creating self-sustaining, comprehensive eye care systems serving marginalized communities throughout the world.
Today GSI encompasses more than a standalone initiative – it touches all that we are doing. Together, We’ve built this original vision of a network to include 136 eye clinics and organizations in 19 countries. In the past year, across the network – that’s all of YOU – we’ve been able to provide 6,576,441 eye care services. 52% of them were provided to women and girls. We established 27 new vision centers across 6 countries. We also collaborated with Standard Chartered Bank to invest in an additional 50 vision centers. In addition, Seva and our partners trained 574 doctors and allied ophthalmic staff, 232 administrators, and 3,913 community health promoters. Additionally, 493 individuals participated in online learning through Seva's InSight learning platform. Through this network of shared learning, we are able to have a greater impact than we would as individual institutions.
